Experience the bonefishing adventure of a lifetime on Andros Island in the Bahamas. South Andros may be known as “The Bonefishing Capital of the World”.
Andros Island has long been associated with the biggest bonefish, and is an ideal base from which to try for a ‘giant’. Anglers can fish primarily for bonefish and the occasional tarpon and permit.

Bonefishing guide Mark Bastian assisted researchers Chris Haak and Dr. Liz Wallace (FWRI) with juvenile bonefish collection using fine mesh seine nets.

What are the best bonefish lures for the Bahamas?
Live shrimp is the bait of choice among spin fishermen but cut shrimp, conch and crab all work well. Best lures are “skimmer” jigs, 1/8 or 1/4 ounce, with horizontally flattened heads that help keep the hook upright.
October thru mid-July is peak season to book a fishing trip, when weather and water temperatures are ideal.
